Why is the SGMVV motor's cooling fan stopped after only a few minutes of running? Posted Date: 08/20/2013 Answer: The 3-phase AC power to the fan is incorrectly wired. L1, L2, L3 of the 3-phase AC input to the fan must be in the correct sequence, otherwise the fan will be running backwards which causes the fan motor to overheat and trips its internal thermal protector causing the fan to shutdown. Check the L1, L2, L3 wiring, and check the airflow of the fan to ensure it is blowing in the direction of the indication arrow marked on its housing. Correct the L1, L2, L3 wiring if necessary. This also applies to SGMVH motor's cooling fan. Posted Date: 02/06/2009 Answer: All Yaskawa Sigma and LEGEND series amplifiers input power specifications are +10% to -15%. 10% above the highest voltage input specified will cause an overvoltage alarm, while 15% below the lowest voltage specified will cause an undervoltage alarm. For a 100-115 amplifier +10% / -15% equates to 85 VAC and 126 VAC respectively. For a 200-230 amplifier +10% / -15% equates to 170 VAC and 253 VAC respectively. For a 400-480 amplifier +10% / -15% equates to 340 VAC and 528 VAC respectively. What should be done with the CN8 connection when using the Safety Option Module (SGDV-OSA01A)? Posted Date: 06/09/2023 Answer: For Sigma-5 (SGDV) and Sigma-7 100/200V (SGD7S-*F, SGD7S-A): There should be nothing connected to the CN8* connection when using the Safety Option Module (SGDV-OSA01A). If the safety function jumper is plugged into the CN8, alarms (A.E74 or A.EB3) will occur. Please remove it before commissioning the SERVOPACK. For more information, please refer to the Sigma-5 & Sigma-7 Safety Module User Manual (SIEPC72082906). Note: When using the Sigma-7 400V FT900 Safety Option Module (SGDV-OSA01A000FT900) the CN8 connection is active and can be used for STO. Yaskawa America, Inc (YAI, Drives & Motion Division (hereinafter D&M), warrants at the time of shipment, new and unused product sold by D&M shall be free from defects in materials and workmanship. D&M warrants that for a period of one (1) year from the date the product is first used by Buyer, or 18 months from the date of shipment, whichever occurs first, if any product or part is found by D&M to be defective, D&M will, at its sole discretion and as Buyer's exclusive remedy, either repair, replace or return the purchase price paid to D&M; provided that the subject product is used under normal conditions for which it was designed and installed, operated and maintained in accordance with D&M's instructions and in accordance with generally accepted industrial practices. Products repaired or replaced during the warranty period shall be covered by the foregoing warranty for the remainder of the original warranty period or ninety (90) days from date of the repair or shipment of the replacement, whichever is longer. D&M warrants, for a period of ninety (90) days, that services shall be performed in a workmanlike manner. What is the life expectancy of a Sigma-5 motor when operating above 40 degrees Celsius (104 F)? Posted Date: 10/18/2010 Answer: The Sigma-5 motor's class F insulation system is rated at 155 degrees Celsius (311 F) maximum internal operating temperature. Every 10 degree C increase of actual temperature above this maximum specification will decrease the life of the insulation system by 50%. The internal temperature of a motor producing rated torque, operating at or below an ambient temperature of 40 degrees Celsius, and mounted to the recommended heat sink should not normally exceed this 155 degrees Celsius limit. Within the rated operating conditions, Yaskawa America Inc. recommends that the bearings be serviced every 20,000 hours. If the ambient temperature exceeds 40 degrees Celsius, the usable life of the bearings and the motor can be decreased but there is no other information available on the bearing life degradation in elevated temperature conditions. The recommended service schedule can be found in the Safety Precaution pamphlet manual that is shipped with every motor ( Manual No. C230200 00B). Cause: The detected torque is 10% or less, but the commanded torque reference is 90% or more for 10ms. This alarm is not activated in cases of BB due to hardware issues. What are some tips for operating a single load with multiple servo motors? Posted Date: 03/12/2014 Answer: With Yaskawa MP Controllers, position mode is quite effective as Mechatrolink is a high-speed deterministic network enabling all of the servopacks process information at the same time (synchronized). Declare (arbitrarily) one axis a master and the other(s) as a slave(s). 1. Configuration To lessen torque discrepancy (fighting) among the axes, it is often useful to set PN10C = 0 in the slave(s). This sets the ServoPack to operate the velocity loop in proportional (P) only mode. It will keep the speed loop integrator in the ServoPack from building up and adding torque disturbance. 2. Alignment Hold the master axis stationary. Limit the torque in the slave axis to something reasonable (that will not damage the mechanism). Slowly (referencing or homing speed) move the slave axis reverse, when torque limit is reached, record the slaves actual position. Move the slave axis forward, when torque limit is reached, record slaves actual position. Move the slave to the mid-point of those two positions, and then enable 1:1 gearing to the master. Typically this is completed as a referencing routine in the motion/machine controller, such as Yaskawa MP controller. 3. Gains When tuning it is important to change the gains on all shared axes at the same time. If using Model Following Control (MFC) tuning methodology, it is important that these ServoPack parameters are the same for all axes. Theses include PN140 - PN14F. Sometimes my machine power-up position is incorrect even though I have an absolute encoder on the motor. What is causing this issue? Posted Date: 05/19/2015 Answer: The absolute encoder rollover value must be properly calculated and stored in servopack parameter Pn205. This parameter is the Multi-Turn Limit Setting. It is necessary to set this value properly for rotary applications which move infinitely in one direction and utilize an absolute encoder. Example applications include indexing tables, spindles, turrets, winders, and conveyors. Pn205 allows the absolute encoder to synchronize itself with the mechanical load's position. The value must be chosen so that the number of turns tracked by the absolute encoder of the motor is an integer multiple of the desired mechanical cycle of the mechanism. When Pn205 is set incorrectly, the mechanism's home position may not be correct after a power cycle. Please see the attached documents that illustrate how to calculate Pn205 with three example applications. IMPORTANT NOTE: After making a change to Pn205 and cycling the power, the drive will display alarm A.CC0 (Multi-turn Limit Disagreement Error). This alarm is fixed by executing the "Multiturn Reset" function found in the web server (section "Machine Operations", tab "Drive Pn"). After executing this function, cycle power again to clear the alarm.
