NEW BERLIN, WI – Yaskawa Electric America, Inc. announces the introduction of the new E7 18-Pulse Drive system (25 – 500 HP), designed specifically for HVAC applications that require low total harmonic distortion (THD). With lower THD and EMI/RFI emissions, the E7 18-Pulse Drive meets or exceeds all current power quality standards. The typical AC drive is 6-pulse.
The E7 18 Pulse drive design limits the THD at the drive input terminals to less than 8% current distortion and less than 3% voltage distortion. Inherent motor protection features resulting from low noise/low carrier technology provides for longer lead lengths without additional motor protection devices.
Embedded in the new drive are communications for the popular building automation protocols Johnson Controls Metasys® N2, Siemens Apogee™ FLN and Modbus. An optional LonWorks® interface card is also available. With Yaskawa’s new DriveWizard™ software, users have the ability to manage the drive via a PC, a feature that allows for uploading, downloading, monitoring and graphing of the drive parameters. The E7 18-Pulse drive also includes a built-in LCD keypad that includes Hand/Off/Auto functions, a copy feature, seven language choices and 5 lines of display.
To eliminate the need for closed loop output signals from a building automation system, the E7 drive has a built in PI controller to maintain the set point for control of fans and pumps for pressure, flow, or temperature regulation. Included are feedback display, inverse, square root and differential control functions.
Significant energy saving is achieved through an enhanced sleep function that minimizes operating hours, and there is no need for an external signal conditioner for energy monitoring because the E7 18-pulse is equipped with a built-in kW-hour and kW display. In addition, with the inclusion of an under-torque detection system, the E7 18-pulse drive will alert users to conditions such as loss of load or broken belts.
The standard enclosure for the E7 18-pulse drive is NEMA 1. NEMA12 or 3R enclosures, and 3-contactor bypass are also available.
